Wall object made of Japanese pagoda tree

Short description:

This turned wall object made of Japanese pagoda tree is deliberately kept very simple in order to emphasize the special grain. The pronounced wood grain creates a rare, almost three-dimensional shimmer that is created by pressure in the wood. I enhanced this effect by lightly sandblasting it. The diameter is approx. 53 cm.

Material:

The wood of the Japanese pagoda tree (Styphnolobium japonicum) comes from Europe despite its exotic name. Originally native to Japan and China, the pagoda tree was introduced to Europe in the 16th century and is now a popular park and street tree. The open-pored wood is characterized by a clear color contrast between early and late wood.
