Short description:
The simple form of this object particularly emphasizes the grain of the Japanese pagoda tree, which is affected by heart rot. A light sandblasting further enhances this effect. The sculpture has a diameter of approx. 49 cm.
Material:
This wall object is made of wood from the Japanese pagoda tree (Styphnolobium japonicum). Despite its exotic name, this wood comes from Europe. Originally native to Japan and China, the pagoda tree was introduced to Europe in the 16th century and is now a popular park and street tree. The open-pored wood is characterized by a clear color contrast between early and late wood.
The characteristic recess of this wall object was created by a heart rot that affected the tree from which it was made.
