Short description:

This unique bowl made from regional walnut wood is characterized by a deep, dark and warm color. The base of the bowl has characteristic mold spots with fine lines and lively contrasts. With a diameter of approx. 42.5 cm and a height of approx. 13 cm, it is one of the largest bowls I have turned.

Material:

Walnut wood is rare and valuable and is mainly used in furniture and interior design. It is usually a by-product of nut production and, with its grey-brown to black-brown colours, is considered a regional alternative to tropical woods. The grain and pore structure of black walnut are often particularly pronounced.

The special grain of the walnut results from the wood's stagnation . This occurs when the wood lies on the forest floor for a long time and is colonized by fungi that decompose it. If this process is interrupted at the right time by drying the wood, interesting patterns such as black lines and unique color nuances are created.

The wood for this bowl comes from a very old walnut tree from Emden and was given to me by the previous owner when I bought my new lathe.
