alder box

Short description:

Flat tin with a lid made of alder wood and a handle made of Italian driftwood. The tin has a height of approx. 5.5 cm and a diameter of approx. 19 cm.

Material:

The grain of alder wood is relatively simple and has a slightly reddish color with golden accents. Depending on the light, the wood will darken slightly in its new home.

The special grain in the lid is the result of the wood becoming stagnant . This occurs when the wood lies on the forest floor for a long time and is colonized by fungi that decompose it. If this process is interrupted at the right time by drying the wood, interesting patterns such as black lines and unique color nuances are created.

The box has a handle made of driftwood that washed up in Italy and was collected during my studies. Due to the small size of the wood, the exact type cannot be determined. This means that the origin of the handle also remains a mystery.
