Short description:
This unusual bowl with a partial natural edge emphasizes the pointed bark structure of the robinia burl. A natural bark inclusion creates an opening on the side, which gives the piece a special feel. The bowl has a diameter of approx. 12 cm and a height of approx. 5.5 cm.
Material:
Burls are cell growths that are caused by a bacterial attack on the tree. This stimulates the tree to sprout many small branches that form a kind of tumor on the trunk. For artisans like me, these types of wood are particularly exciting because the material only reveals its secrets when it is processed. At the beginning of the turning work, it is often still unclear what the finished product will ultimately look like.
The burl for this bowl comes from a robinia tree . Robinias are originally from North America, but now also grow in Europe. The tree from which this object was made originally grew in a forest in Serbia. Robinia wood is known for its high density and therefore for the weight and stability of the products made from it.
