Short description:
This large bowl was made from a branch fork, an area of the tree where the wood grows particularly densely and resiliently due to tensile and compressive stresses. These stresses create the characteristic "feather" pattern in the grain, which looks particularly striking and three-dimensional here. The bowl has a diameter of approx. 41 cm and a height of approx. 5 cm.
Material:
Walnut wood is rare and valuable and is mainly used in furniture and interior design. It is usually a by-product of nut production and, with its grey-brown to black-brown colours, is considered a regional alternative to tropical woods. The grain and pore structure of black walnut are often particularly pronounced.
The wood for this vase comes from my friend Fillipo's garden near Turin. I cut it myself, dried it and then turned it.
